Tom Crabtree, MD, MHCDS, FACS

Dr. Tom Crabtree is a co-founder and Group Medical Director for AMI Expeditionary Healthcare, a global company with deep expertise in the delivery of healthcare solutions in remote, challenging, and under-resourced environments.  Prior to forming AMI, he retired as a Colonel from the US Army. During his military career, Tom served as a trauma and reconstructive surgeon in multiple domestic, overseas, and combat settings. He worked with the UN on several occasions to support various peacekeeping missions, and he served as the medical director and the senior medical advisor to the US Pacific Command’s Center of Excellence in Disaster Management and Humanitarian Assistance. He held the same position with The Naval Postgraduate School’s Center for Civil-Military Relations Global Health Program. In this capacity, Tom was responsible for guiding, brokering, and executing myriad civil-military medical assistance efforts and health development programs around the globe.  

At AMI, Tom has built an extensive network of private clinics across Africa and the Middle East linked by AMI-owned and operated aeromedical platforms. He also recently led large-scale AMI efforts running multiple USAID-supported Ebola Treatment Units across Western Africa and served as a clinical director of three WHO Trauma and Maternity Hospitals in Mosul, Iraq.

Tom is a graduate of Harvard and Stanford. He completed his general surgery training in San Francisco and Tucson and his plastic surgery training in Washington DC and Baltimore.
